Rabbit Hunting... (anyone may join!) « Thread Started on May 3, 2007, 8:32pm »
Thornheart was crouched low to the ground, her underbelly tickled by dry strands of grass dried in the parching sun. Her prey was a medium sized cottontail rabbit. It was sitting straight up, ears pricked, turned with its back facing the threat. Thornheart was lucky for the wind was blowing straight at her. The rabbit had no idea she was there. Itching to taste the sweet, supple meat of her (almost) catch, Thornheart edged forward gingerly, careful of how she placed her paws as she stepped. The rabbit heard Thornheart coming but too late to escape the wildcat's needle-sharp claws. Looking up, prey in her jaws held carefully as not to make it bleed, Thornclaw squinted as she looked off into the distance. Then something rustled behind her. Swiveling around, Thornheart managed to lurch backward. Is someone there??? She wondered. She couldn't smell what clan they were from because of her catch...

Ashfoot had came out of the bush behind Thornheart. "Did I scare you?"Ashfoot sweet voice mewed. "Nice catch, Windclan is glad to have you hunting for us and not anyone else, Thornheart. Come on let's go back to camp." Ashfoot walked in ahead of Thornheart towards the camp.

Thornheart sighed in relief through rabbit fur and padded along Ashfoot as they headed back to WindClan camp. "What were you doing out there, Ashfoot?" She asked her clan mate, interest seeping through her words. Hunting would be the most logical answer, I suppose... Thinking lightly on the subject as they walked on, Thornheart realized how hungry she was. "How about we bury this," She meowed, shaking the limp animal in her mouth to emphasize her point, "And keep hunting. I'm feeling a bit hungrier than when I was just with this creature." She shook her head again with the cottontail moving along with the motion just as before.

"Well, i just needed to get out of the camp for a while since my duites as deputy were just bugging. And everyone was coming up to me if they were needed for a patrol or hunting,"Ashfoot mewed.

"Well, that must be a drag!" Thornheart replied as she kicked dirt over the morsel with her hind legs. "Come on," She purred after finishing covering the scent of her caught rabbit. "Maybe if we head back to where you found me we'll be able to catch some more snacks for our clan." Moving up to Ashfoot, Thornheart nudged her friend's flank with her head playfully. Breaking out into a steady trot, she called out, "C'mon, Ashfoot! I'll race you there!"

"You know I'll beat you there! I am the fastest Windclan cat! That is why when ever I hear a can I am there in seconds!" AShfoot mewed as she was about to run after her friend. As she was runing towards Thornheart she heard a yowl coming from behind her. She stopped running after Thornheart and ran towards the yowl. Ashfoot knew who had yowled her sister, Hickorystone. "Hickorystone are you alright?!"AShfoot called. "Ashfoot! Deerpaw is dead!"Hickorystone said as she stood over her apprentice. "We were attacked by rogues and Deerpaw was taken on by a huge rogue and he was too powerful for me to take on with the help of her." "Come on, Hickorystone let's take her back for her parents and everyone to mourn for her before the elders bury her,"Ashfoot mewed in a kind gently voice.

Thornheart came to a skidding halt and turned to face Ashfoot and her other clan mate. "What's happened!?" She yowled, having seen the two cats exchange distressed glances. Rushing over at full throttle, Thornheart asked both felines, "Has someone been hurt? I know where to find catmint, coltsfoot, and... and..." she saw how sad the other cat looked and realized that the injured animal was probably no longer alive. "I'm- I'm... sorry..." she mumbled.
"If anyone's hurt, though, I can go with Firepool and get herbs." and with that, Thornheart raced away to fetch help from her clanmate.
